To show our appreciation to the essential services and opportunities provided by libraries across the nation, we’re dedicating today’s #TBT to our JORDAN-NEWBY BRANCH LIBRARY AT BROAD CREEK, NORFOLK, VA. A collaborative project with Tymoff + Moss Architects and Hourigan Construction completed in 2018, this two-story 28,000 square foot library even features a roof terrace and children's outdoor patio/playground! And the award is even sweeter for the Cowan's because Steve's wife Rebecca Cowan, Ph.D. also is one of this year's award recipients! The annual award program recognizes Old Dominion University Monarchs who are the most impactful leaders in their communities and across the globe. The Aquaplex venue will stand out among others in the region and Mid-Atlantic hosting larger swim tournaments and national aquatic competitions. The two-story, 64,000 SF the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex will feature an eight-lane and 50-meter competition pool, two moveable bulkheads, two one-meter and two three-meter springboards, spectator seating for 1,500, on-deck athlete seating for 760, and an outdoor splash park. This venue's genesis began to take shape when design team Clancy & Theys Construction Co. of Newport News and Williamsburg-based GuernseyTingle submitted an unsolicited proposal in 2018. A groundbreaking ceremony for the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex is scheduled for next month, but construction is already underway. In honor of Mathematics Awareness Month, Speight Marshall Francis is spotlighting one of our past projects - Southside STEM Academy at Campostella. Built in 2016, this multi-story 170,000 sf elementary school provides a STEM program with special emphasis on Engineering.
