Today's #FeaturedFriday, Clovernook Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired (located in #Cincinnati) produces more than 20 million pages of braille each year for the Library of Congress and has been embossing braille since 1914. . In 2016, @clovernookcenter launched their Arts & Accessibility Initiative through an innovative partnership with the Massillon Museum. Today, Clovernook Center is partnering with institutions all across the nation, including many in the state of #Ohio such as @cincyartmuseum, @cincinnatizoo, @westernwildlifecorridor, @nationalvmm, @massmu, @cincycac, and @cincymuseumrocks . At the heart of what Clovernook offers is community involvement—all materials are developed with the assistance of the end-user. People who are blind or low vision develop all of their materials, and every project is driven by the responses of individuals who are the target audience. With the emergence of COVID-19, museum access for individuals who are blind or low vision has become even more limited, and Clovernook is committed to finding innovative solutions for equitable access during these challenging times. Additionally, to help address safety concerns, Clovernook is happy to offer cleanable braille and tactile graphics, which can be wiped down after each use. .   • Today’s #FeaturedFriday is a treat for any avian enthusiasts out there! “Keeper of the Barn” is a mixed-media sculpture by Valerie Dunning Edwards, an artist who lives and works in Marysville. . Valerie’s sculptures are made of various materials including wood, recycled paper, and pages from The Wall Street Journal. Crafted without use of an armature, these pieces are created by bending, cutting, and adding structure through layering, a process that Valerie says “allows a sense of being and personality to emerge” in each one-of-a-kind sculpture. . And chalk art is a great medium for responding quickly and creatively to emerging circumstances – it can reflect the lived experience of the artist and their community in real time.   • The streets of downtown #Ironton have an added splash of color thanks to three new decorated crosswalks and four art-inspired bike racks. . Today’s #FeaturedFriday showcases an incredible community artmaking effort organized by @thirdandcenter, a nonprofit located in the heart of the #downtown Ironton #historicdistrict. Supported by an Ohio Arts Council grant, Third and Center collaborated with @collinsctc, a local vocational school; local artists; the City of Ironton; and residents at the STAR Community Justice Center to design and paint these cheerful pieces on their city’s streets. . “Our hope is that these public art installations are the beginning of more community collaboration, art, and culture in Ironton and the surrounding area,” the Third and Center team wrote in their grant application narrative. “Together we are making our little corner of the world better.” .
