I don’t take for granted the mother earth I use daily for a backdrop. her water, stars, green plants and white snow. her seasons, moods, and atmosphere. protect and appreciate her - she gives us so much.

I’m a people-photographer so these snapshots don’t do Iceland justice, but a people-free nod to #earthday nevertheless. love yourself and love your planet.

poet, writer, and political activist John Sinclair is famous for his contribution to the historic cannabis legalization effort, rock music in Detroit, and psychedelic communitarianism. John Lennon wrote a song in his name and spearheaded a movement in 1971 leading to reform, and legalization. in addition to being bffs with Lennon, Yoko Ono, Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Obama, and the Black Crowes, I was humbled to chat with him and document an interview with @djviernes and Andrew McFarlane on a sunny, summery, smoky farmhouse porch.

wedding tips: get married in a place accessible only by 4wd. give zero fucks about lake superior or mud on your dress or your face. kiss like nobody is watching. ending your night with live music and things on fire is always encouraged.

my left leg is a bit of a totem pole to my family. jade for my dad. heron for my sister. etc. the melia flowers were colored in accordance with what my daughter filled in with her crayola markers when she was a toddler (also her middle name), and the roots of the jade go to my toes to ground me. my right leg is a mural of a sunset in the keweenaw peninsula - northern lights on the top and and the big dipper with stars drawn by Kora. the prominent tree is a white pine - my favorite towering evergreen in the northwoods landscape. it’s art I get to literally take with me. we’ve got a lot of distinct features in the studio. the green couch. the pink chair. our brick walls. this rug. but we also have some unique clothing. Hannah is wearing a vintage black dress that is a favorite of ours and of our clients. we’re unsure of its age but we know it flatters!

we have a summer client who is planning a moonlit ceremony - and I couldn’t be more excited for it. we once shot a wedding in milwaukee that was so dark that flashlights were needed to read the vows. this also lit the brides up nicely! hmmm… I should share that shot. but this one is pretty damn lovely too.

when the doctor finally showed up, oh boy his fur was soaking wet he said that "this should do the trick” we hadn't told him what the problem was yet #modestmouse
