At the time, it was restored with a root canal and a porcelain crown with a metal coping and a little nub to help retain it!   • When this patient arrived in our office, there were cavities and failed restorations present on the front 8 teeth as well as swollen and bleeding gums. Dentistry is often difficult... Poorly isolated “bonding” (tooth-colored fillings) on the front teeth can be contaminated by blood and saliva at time of placement and become a bacteria/cavity trap and an esthetic nightmare. This patient was suffering from cavities that began during his teen years as well as from the “quick fix” dentistry that was performed for him early in adulthood. After a thorough cleaning and changing his home hygiene routine to include antibacterial mouth-rinses and regular flossing, his gums calmed down! We addressed the cavities and staining with beautiful smile-design custom bonding and blending, all in one appointment. We used tooth colored, BPA free, biocompatible filling material. He was ecstatic with the results and so thankful for the extra bit of polishing and leveling of the front two teeth to improve the alignment and smoothness of the edges of his teeth. Often, properly planned bonding, such as this, will take on a “chameleon” effect, and you won’t be able to tell where bonding ends and tooth starts! Anterior veneers and crowns often sacrifice healthy tooth material and can be expensive and time consuming for patients.
