It's Monday at 7pm which means I can finally reveal the first project by our newest Painter in Residence, @Girl_In_Blue_Designs. What do you all think?! This Chalk Paint® cupboard encapsulates everything I love about Girl In Blue Designs' style! She’s an absolute ombre maestro who isn’t shy of colour. Her finished pieces are romantic, a little gothic, and quite frankly fairy-tale fantastical. Personally, I think this cupboard in Amsterdam Green, Antibes, and Lem Lem is completely magical. For a step-by-step to how Charlie upcycled and upgraded this little number, and if you’re thinking of executing an ombre of your own, visit the Inspiration Page on my website (link in bio).
#StockistSunday this week takes us to Singapore! That’s where you’ll find Deepti and her treasure chest of a shop, @BigBlueTrunk. Deepti first discovered Chalk Paint® when she was working and travelling the world. Chalk Paint® provided an easy way for her to be crafty and creative and make her transient homes beautiful and personal… Deepti told me, “every time I used Chalk Paint for home-improvement projects, I was always amazed at the quality and finish of the products. Each time I'd visit my Stockist in Singapore to buy paint, I'd think to myself - 'how I'd love to have a Studio of my own and do this for a living', all the time still slogging it out in the corporate world. Then, on one of my paint-buying trips, my Stockist said she was looking for a buyer for the business. And that's how it all happened - I decided to take the plunge, and Big Blue Trunk came to be. That was exactly one year ago, and I'm loving every single day. I have always believed that a space should reflect the inhabitant's story - it should be personal, unique and YOU. And that's exactly what Annie Sloan Chalk Paint lets you do. Each day we help our customers transform their homes in simple ways to be more beautiful and happy, and that's why I love being an Annie Sloan Stockist. I'm inspired by the creative global Annie Sloan tribe that we are privileged to be a part of, and I enjoy helping our community in Singapore to get creative and #makeeverydaybeautiful. I can gratefully and proudly say that Annie Sloan has given me a platform to live my dream - I actually do what I love, my work is my play”. #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #Singapore
Read about the wonderful @girl_in_blue_designs, my brand new Painter in Residence on my blog! This Georgia peach's furniture painting is as beautiful as she is (which is no mean feat, as this photo attests). I think there's a definite overlap between painting furniture and being good looking, you know 😉 For more of @Girl_In_Blue_Designs there’s a handy link in my bio – click to see some of my very favourite of her past pieces. It was a tough shortlist to make and you might be surprised! Let me know in the comments if I missed any of your favourites. #PainterinResidence #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint
I think it’s about time I reveal my NEW Painter in Residence! Please give a warm welcome to @girl_in_blue_designs!!! To be clear: She's NOT the one perched atop this chest of drawers. Girl in Blue is the brainchild of the wonderful, talented Charlie Ann Massey who’s signature style is painterly and life-affirming and wild and bold and just down right fabulous. I love how she uses colour and I’m sure that you will too. I’ll be sharing her first project on Monday at 7pm GMT so be sure to check back and let me know what you think (or turn on Post Notifications so you never miss a piece again!). For now, here’s one of Girl in Blue's beautiful pieces which first caught my eye! This highly textured chest of drawers has been transformed with thick layers of Chalk Paint® colours. Undertones of Barcelona Orange, English Yellow and Burgundy emerge from stripped back Amsterdam Green at the base. Fading beautifully into Lem Lem at the top of the piece. A dream in green! #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #PainterinResidence
If the Chalk Paint® in Lem Lem projects I’ve shared have caught your eye and whetted your appetite for this pretty pastel then remember to pop into your local Stockist and pick up a tin to support your local high street, @oxfam AND people like Milagrosa (pictured). In the Philippines, Oxfam and Annie Sloan are helping to support communities in protecting themselves against the disastrous effects of climate change. Sales of Lem Lem are funding training for vulnerable farming communities and teaching farmers like Milagrosa how to best adapt their farming methods to withstand climate shocks. Milagrosa has her own organic vegetable garden which she sais “helped us provide for our daily needs as well as supporting our children’s education. Our children don’t get sick because they are eating organically-grown vegetables”. It’s important work, which wouldn’t be possible without you.
G'day mate! Australian Stockists @CrabAppleVintage have done a beautiful Chalk Paint® job on this chest of drawers. A fresh coat of Lem Lem allows the unusual handles to become the focal point. Romantic, rustic and styled to perfection with those pampas grasses! Top notch stuff.
Elias is another person @OxfamGB are helping. With Oxfam’s support, Elias and a group of his fellow farmers in the Laukshi District of Zambia have founded the The Chati Milk Collection. Members of the Chati Milk Collection process their milk and take it to market together, and then divide the money they make from sales. Working as a group cuts costs and increases profits - and therefore enables the farmers to make more money than they would be able to as individuals. Without the educational and financial support provided by Oxfam, none of this would have been possible. Keep painting with Lem Lem to fund more important work across the globe!
This beautiful French looking piece of furniture was actually a cheap reproduction piece in a very…unique…stained wood. It was a little worse for wear and a truly…strong…colour. I’m trying to be diplomatic, but honestly, it was hideous. I painted it in Lem Lem and ta dah! The design elements of the table, the scrolls and the curved legs, are immediately easier to see. And the table itself is now a pleasure to live with! 📸: @misstinahillier #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #LemLem #Oxfam
Lem Lem is helping women like Poakurugu in Northern Ghana. Poakurugu recently won a prize as the best poultry farmer in her district. “I was so happy [to win] because I have also become somebody, somebody recognised in the district, I’m just extremely happy.” . Through @oxfamgb, sales of Chalk Paint® in Lem Lem have supported Poakurugu in her journey to become a successful farmer. With Oxfam‘s support and her hard work, she has been able to save money to buy chicken and fowls, to attend classes where she learns about climate resilient farming techniques, and to farm effectively. She is improving her assets, skills and knowledge, whilst improving the lives of her family and community. . I’m delighted to be involved in this project, and I hope you continue to support these women and this important project with your purchases of Lem Lem. #InternationalWomensDay #BalanceForBetter #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #LemLem
Here’s a fresh and modern way of using Lem Lem in your home, as demonstrated by @elizabethdotdesign. Elizabeth used Lem Lem with negative spaces of unpainted wood to create a striking retro look. #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #LemLem
Supporting small independent businesses is a founding principle of my company. There are over 1700 Annie Sloan Stockists around the world and many of them are run by women. . #BalanceforBetter is about helping redress hundreds of years without women in employment and about creating room for women in all industries at all levels. We have women working in the factory here at Annie Sloan Headquarters; on the production line making paint, and in the laboratory analysing formulas and conducting rigorous quality control tests; we have women teaching workshops and in the accounts departments; as well as at the head of the Marketing and Design Teams. We are working hard to redress the balance! . 73% of my distributors are women, and this is a statistic I’m really proud of. Distribution; shipping, warehousing and delivering huge quantities of paint in Europe, in Australasia, in North America is a massive feat and traditionally a very male-dominated career path. . So happy International Women's Day to EVERYONE: all genders aside, let's celebrate balance for a better world. @internationalwomensday_global #IWD2019 #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #AnnieSloanStockist
I love this graphic chest of drawers in Lem Lem by Polly of @attic.furniture.qld in Australia. Polly used my slightly green-tinted neutral Country Grey as a base. So here we have a colour inspired by women in Ethiopia, made by a woman in Oxford, then sent half way around the world to be used by an independent furniture painting artist and entrepreneur in Australia! Talk about an #InternationalGirlGang! #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #IWD #InternationalWomensDay #LemLem #Oxfam
So here I am, in Ethiopia, surrounded by some of the many women farmers who inspired me to create the uplifting pastel Chalk Paint® colour Lem Lem. . Lem Lem, “The Colour of Hope”, is the fresh and gorgeous colour of the allium blooms in Ethiopia. Use it with whites for a refreshing but gentle touch of colour. Every pot of Lem Lem bought by you will raise vital funds for @oxfamgb, helping people beat poverty worldwide. This week I'll be sharing some of the inspiring stories of women and men who have had their life changed for the better by Oxfam and the money donated by YOU for investing in Lem Lem. Thank you. . It's not too late, pick up a pot of Lem Lem today! 📸 by Tina Hillier. #AnnieSloan #ChalkPaint #LemLem #Oxfam
I designed the Chalk Paint® palette to reflect the painting palette a fine artist would use, arranged around the primary colours and laid out on my colour cards so it’s easy for you furniture artists at home to see which colours work well together. Lem Lem is nominally similar to Firle - after all, they’re both green! - but also hugely different in character, and in impact. If the Firle projects I’ve been sharing recently have been a little out of your comfort zone then I recommend Lem Lem as a more gentle alternative. Not only is it a beautiful colour, but it also has a beautiful back story. Lem Lem is my Chalk Paint® colour created in collaboration with Oxfam. In honour of International Women’s Day on the 8th I’ll be sharing some stories from the women who the charity – and you, with your Lem Lem purchases! – are supporting. In the meantime, I thought I’d share this gorgeous piece by @thepaintedepicurean who mixed Lem Lem with Old White to create a really pretty ombre.
