Two initiatives of the ACM were featured in the Virtual Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Success, hosted by the Association of American Colleges and Universities. The ACM contributed poster presentations on its consortial Anti-Racism Initiatives as well as on equitably retooling a summer research program with the Big Ten Academic Alliance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ACM congratulates Morgan Lippert, a 2019 ACM Newberry Seminar alum, who has continued to pursue the research she began at the Newberry Library and curated a virtual exhibition at the Beloit College Logan Museum of Anthropology! She gave a curator talk this past Tuesday evening on her exhibit, "Nothing Servile: Native Resistance at the Santee Normal Training School." The ACM congratulates Sandra Cisneros on receiving the Fuller Award for her lifetime contribution to literature from the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame! The Chicago native and author of "The House on Mango Street" will also judge the ACM's 2021 Nick Adams Short Story Contest. Entries are once again being accepted for the Nick Adams Short Story Contest, now in its 49th year! This writing competition, named for the young hero of many Hemingway stories, offers a prize of $1,000 for the best story written by an ACM student. Each year, a professional author serves as the guest judge, reading the finalists and selecting the winner. Past judges have included Maya Angelou, Saul Bellow, Joyce Carol Oates, Anne Tyler, and John Updike. Keep an eye on ACM's social media to be the first to know when this year's judge is announced.
